First Light at the Lighthouse

The hike: Bass Harbor Head Light Trail

Location: Bass Harbor, ME

Approximate time: ~ 30 minutes (including rocks)

We woke up at 4:20 am to catch the sunrise here, and boy was it worth it. Do we wish we could have made it up to Cadillac to be the first people on the east coast to see the sunrise? Maybe. Do we regret seeing the sunrise from the ocean and watching the sun literally rise out of the trees? Definitely not.

This “trail” is a super quick walk that leads you to a rocky coast. We made our way to the outcropping shown below from the wooden stairway at the end of the trail to get the best view possible. Parking at the time wasn’t difficult at all, though the lot is on the small side, so we just ran out of the car and onto the rocks. Definitely recommend catching the sunrise here - if all the spots on Cadillac are reserved.

See our route below (shown in red).
