Mad Monadnock
The hike: Mount Monadnock via White Dot and White Cross Trails (3,166 feet)
Location: Jaffrey/Dublin, NH
Approximate time: ~ 3 hours
Mount Monadnock is supposedly one of the most hiked mountains in the world, and for good reason. It’s challenging but not too long with gorgeous views from bottom to top. It’s an easy day trip from Rhode Island, but make sure to reserve a spot during busy season (generally the summer) or bring the 15$ entrance fee with you to the park. The one thing we forgot to bring with us on this hike? Bug spray. And the bugs ate us right from the start. The closer we go to the top, the less bugs there were, but the wind picked up like crazy.
We took the more well known and recommended for “beginner hikers” trail (White Dot up and White Cross down), which had its fair share of rock scrambles and stone stairs. Definitely get ready to sweat for this hike - but don’t forget extra layers so you can really enjoy the views above tree line.
